P.S. – I Made This: A DIY Book Review (with videos)

Do you judge a book by its cover? Maybe not when it?s applied to something other than the literal interpretation of the theory. When books come my way to be reviewed, it is the cover design that grabs me first. So, even before I cracked open P.S.-I Made This?I See It. I Like It. I Make It. by Erica Domesek, I was intrigued by the cover. The white cover displays a fashionista-clad model. That?s not so odd since the book is about fashion and DIY. But, what I love about the cover is that the font looks handmade and there are arrows to six DIY projects on the model. When I stopped ogling the cover and dove in, I found not just the cover had style, the whole book was designed minimally, with clear and concise step-by-step instructions for projects that are backed up by visually appealing fashion montages.

It is immediately evident that author, Erica Domesek really likes to make things. When she sees something she likes, she figures out how it’s created and she goes for it. Domesek claims, ?I like to think I was born with DIY in my DNA.? This girl knows what she likes and she wears it well. ?I live for fashion? In a world where trends are expensive and pass quickly, wouldn?t you like to say, ?P.S-I Made This??? Sounds good to me.

I?m going to say three more things about the book and then let these two DIY videos tell the rest of the story. P.S.-I Made This is a call to action to reimagine, reuse and reinvent. Domesek introduces the book and the directions for making a striped shirt here:

In this video tutorial with Design Sponge?s, Grace Bonney they show you how to marbelize paper and create a lampshade.

What more can I say about the book? Well, my favorite project from the book is?Recycled Cork Earrings. If the price of owning quality clothes and stylishly designed fashion accessories seems staggering to you, or you like to create fashionable gifts and you?ve got the DIY ethos, this book will let you say, ?P.S.-I Made This??
