08 FL Garden Patch May 11, 2010 NIGHT TIME

Did it again, another garden video, this is the last one for at least a month to see the results. Last minute, I changed my mind and ripped out LAST YEARS tomato plants, which I just cut down during the winter, and let grow back. I saved some good shoots to root in solution, called pixies. The critters ate my Kale seedlings, they didnt even have a chance. No problem, doesnt do well in FL heat, will redo that one inside, and outside in the fall. As I keep saying I want to try everything. Beets, Collards, Parsley, Herbs, Brussels Sprouts, Kale, Radish, Flowers, Cabbage, Lettuce, Spinach, Ferns, Carrots, Mustard, Turnips, can do well with mottled shade, or 4-6 hours of sun. Note: FL old time gardeners are saying tomatoes do well with mottled shade, in the summer, the sun is too strong. One lady told me her tomatoes are on her shaded screened in porch and doing good! So, I am applying that principle. Natural bug recipe: (just found this after I ripped my blighty tomato plants out, they were from last year anyway – started some healthly shoots in water inside, called pixies) 1-2 tsp dishwashing liquid, (or dr bronners Castile soap works good, use 1 tsp, it’s strong, remember it has some oil in it, which can provoke a sunburn effect, use at sunset. I am going to try the peppermint soap – Ivory is good too. Do not use soap with degreasing in it.) 1 quart of water 1 tsp baking soda (add if you got mildew or blight) Or 6-8 garlic cloves finely chopped 1 tbs mineral oil 1 pint
